Goals & Measurement
It is often the case that prior to any course, a pre-course programme will be constructed from the information and analysis results from the testing. However, when looking at a large scale programme, involving many individuals being grouped, the programme should be constructed after the students have been grouped and have had a couple of lessons. This gives a clearer indication of language content, skill areas and goals, as well as looking at the needs not only of the individuals within the group, but also the group as a whole.
When all the above is attained, it will have positive, practical effects on the student’s professional performance. These practical business skills will assist in maintaining motivation.
This also applies to the ‘presentation’ of these findings. When a large-scale programme is being organised, an audit report is produced, giving general information about all the students, from which the grouping is decided. The approach to this has been modified through client feedback. Richard Lewis Communications uses a type of internal audit report to get the necessary information to make decisions on the groupings. However, from experience, it is clear that changes to these groupings will happen throughout the first 2 to 5 lessons. Therefore a more effective pedagogical way of producing an accurate report is to do so near the end of the semester.
We then produce an individual report on every student, who through the Richard Lewis Communications admin system can access his or her own report (and programme).
